Brief Overview and Gallery of the Selous Scouts (1964-1979)

The Selous Scouts were government special forces for the white dominated Rhodesian regime. The tactics of the Selous Scouts was to use guerrilla tactics against the African Nationalist groups Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU). The Rhodesian Bush War was a 3 way war with between the Rhodesian government, ZANU, and ZAPU. The Selous Scouts were so successful against ZANU and ZAPU that they inflicted 68% of insurgent causalities claimed by government forces for the loss of just 36 men. Despite the success of the Selous Scouts, ZANU won the 1980 elections and ZANU came into power. ZANU renamed Rhodesia into Zimbabwe.
