Cangaco

Cangacos were bandit groups in Brazil during the 1920s. Cangacos often operate in the North East of Brazil, the region in Brazil known for its harsh deserts. Such groups have been known as "the Jesse James of Brazil". They often terrorized wealthy landowners or people that they perceived as wronged them. The most iconic leader of the Cangacos was the man known as the Lampiao (Lamp). Allegedly, Lampiao got his nickname his "skill" of shooting so fast that he light the place like a lamp. Lampaio's band was one of the most destructive of the Cangaco groups. The victims and damages of Lampaio's band is estimated up to 1,000 people and 5,000 cattle killed, along with 200 women raped. Lampiao's band manged to clash with the incompetent police force as much as 200 times [Wikipedia]. Lampiao was soon betrayed by one of his "supporters" and he, along with his wife and a few of his men, were killed in a police ambush. The heads of those that were killed were put in a museum until 1971 with the families of Lampiao and his wife claiming the heads for a proper burial

The museum exhibit that had the heads of Lampiao and his followers displayed until 1971.
