Battle of Clontraf

The Battle of Clontraf was a clash between Irish and some Norse loyal to Irish warlord/king Brian Boru and rival Irish kingdoms Dublin and Leinster along with thousands of Norse allies (they made such a great majority of the Dublin and Leinster coalition that the battle is often thought of Irish vs Vikings). The background of the battle was that Brian was rapidly gaining power at the expense of both of his indigenous and foreign rivals alike. 4,000/7,000 of the forces loyal to Brian were killed, while 6,000/6,600 of the Irish-Norse alliance died in the battle. Brian himself along with his son that was heir to the Irish throne was slain in the battle. Brian's relative of a disputed nature (accounts varies from a grandson to a brother) Wolf the Quarrelsome then gruesomely killed Brian's assassin (some Norse warlord) in a manner that I will not talk about due to the squeamishness of my audience (like the Fijian post, I wish to cover more details but that might be too gruesome for people). The death of Brian and his heir to the throne lead to a power-strugle between Brian's surviving sons. The battle also greatly reduced Norse presence in Ireland.
