Loosely organized non-state militias often can't afford to equip their fighters with any sort of uniform, they often resort to using captured uniforms, light civilian clothing such as tank tops or t-shirts, or in extreme cases as seen in some of the photos in this post, no clothing at all. |

As seen in these photos, ULIMO-J is a very factionlised militia with consent powerstrugles, with its fighters frequently disobeying orders from the main group and just do their own thing like loot. Plus the power-struggles within the militia prevents the militia from focusing on equipping its fighters. |

This fighters most likely belong to Joshua Boyhli's "Butt Naked" Brigade. They are also poorly armed with just small arms and machetes. ULIMO-J lacks the organization necessary for equipping its fighters with weapons. The berets worn by these fighters might have been captured from ECOMOG. |

Disciplined organizational structures are necessary for eliminating power-struggles within the faction. So that is why infighting is so common throughout all non-state militias around the world from RCD of the DRC to the LTTE of Sri Lanka. That is why State Armies like the American USMC is so well equipped is that its magnificent and disciplined organization prevents infighting and splintering among its soldiers. |
We will contrast ULIMO-J with the infamous Islamic State in the next post.
