Gallery of Chechen Rebels
The Chechen Wars of the 90s are a recent incident of centuries of Russian-Chechen wars (I covered the campaigns in the 80s in a previous post). The Chechen republics declared their independence from Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. The Russians declared war on the separatists, but they were driven out. The Russian declare a 2nd war, and they were victorious. Their is still a small scale insurgency, with one clash that killed 26 people that occurred as late as December 2014. Here are several photos of Chechen rebels below.
